It also retains its rustic mountain and traditional farming village feel, with pine tree clad hills, high mountains and snow covered ski chalets. Chatel is one of the most idyllic and attractive resorts you will find in the French alps and is simply perfect for a break, whether it is an alpine activity holiday, or if you are simply looking for a beautiful private ski chalet to relax in and enjoy the crisp air and breathtaking surroundings.

The ski area of Chatel covers 85km of varied terrain with over 41 lifts and 50 marked skiing pistes to suite all levels of skiing and snowboarding. It has one of the largest areas for beginners and intermediate skiers, making it ideal for those on their first skiing holiday, or who need to brush up, but it also has slopes that are set aside for experts and even some purely for professional skiers. The village is serviced by a free ski-bus so wherever you are in this quaint village – perhaps in one of our regular Chatel chalets, or one of our more luxurious ski apartments - you are never more than a few minutes away from the any of the ski lifts. It also has one of the longest pisted ski runs at over 8km and over 40km of cross-country ski trails, so there is plenty for the activity driven to occupy themselves with.

Portes du Soleil is made up of 12 French and Swiss ski resorts and boasts over 650Km of marked pistes and trails for all skiing and snowboarding levels. The best bit is that all of this incredible ski area is covered on just one lift pass, which means you can ski to Switzerland for lunch! With such a large area on your doorstep, the off piste skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing opportunities are endless too, and at the end of a busy day there is nothing better than taking the weight off your feet in one of the picturesque holiday chalets in Chatel, ready for the next day’s adventure. If you prefer to venture out, however, you’ll have the chance to enjoy the many bars and restaurants that give the village a modern twist while maintaining the alpine charm that our visitors adore. However it’s not just a winter ski resort.
